‘Music is incredibly healing for us.’ BMC nurses get guitars from rocker John Fogerty

The trials of 2020 sparked a new music for John Fogerty. “Weeping in the Promised Land” — launched, of all times, on Jan. 6 — touches on the Black Life Make a difference movement, the pandemic, and the struggles of frontline workers.

“With dread in their eyes/ all the nurses are crying/ Everywhere sorrow/ Everywhere you go dying,” Fogerty sings.

“I come to feel so strongly about the nurses and what they are heading via. They have been battling for pretty much a yr and I know they felt by itself with all this,” the Rock and Roll Corridor of Famer advised the Globe in an e-mail.

He’s not just conversing the chat.

A lifelong Fogerty admirer, Boston Medical Centre nurse Sarah Demers played Fogerty hits in her neurology and infectious health conditions unit to brighten the mood.

“Music is very therapeutic for us,” Demers claimed in a modern telephone job interview. “It puts a smile on all our faces [at the hospital]. His tunes symbolizes hope, power we can get through everything.”

And so she wrote Fogerty a letter a several months back, telling him how much his audio means to her at BMC. She did not be expecting a response — but he despatched her some confront masks and a CD.

So she wrote back again in January to thank him — this time commenting on how much his new track indicates to her as a nurse. Fogerty despatched her a personalized Fender acoustic guitar.

This 7 days, Demers (and her co-personnel) acquired another surprise: The former frontman of Creedence Clearwater Revival despatched 10 Fender guitars to BMC. Demers and her co-employees unwrapped some of the offers Thursday.

“I’m a musician, so my initial intuition is to send audio,” stated Fogerty. “My spouse, Julie, informed Fender Guitars what we were being carrying out and they jumped on board and donated a bunch of guitars. … Tunes is just so therapeutic and joyful. We all answer to it. We just cannot aid it, it’s in our soul. So, acquiring the guitars in their breakroom, effectively, they can pick it up, sing a tune, and truly feel fantastic for a moment.”

When she does not perform guitar, Demers states she “might commence,” incorporating with a chuckle, “I was thinking if John could give me some classes.”
